Mission: Reduce substance abuse in Kootenai County through education and community partnerships.
Who We Are: The Kootenai County Substance Abuse Council, formed in 1983, is a nonprofit association of civic leaders, educators, law enforcement and concerned citizens dedicated to reducing substance abuse in Kootenai County.
When We Meet: General membership meetings are held bimonthly on the second Wednesday of each odd month from noon to 1:00 pm. (Location varies.)
Supported Programs:
DUI Victims Panels – Brings together DUI victims, survivors, offenders and law enforcement officers to hear firsthand about losses people have suffered as a result of impaired driving. The objective is to create a powerful and permanent impression that leads to a change in attitude against drinking and driving.
P.A.R.K. Prevent Alcohol Related Krashes – Working to reduce impaired driving through various avenues such as DESIGNATED DRIVERS, BREATHALYZERS, EDUCATION (including mock crashes), and LEGISLATION.
D.A.R.E. Drug Abuse Resistance Education – Prevention program designed to equip elementary school children with skills for resisting peer pressure.
Idaho Meth Project – Large-scale prevention program aimed at significantly reducing first-time meth use through public service messaging, public policy, and community outreach.
